16 years of transforming childhood

Today we’re celebrating sixteen sweet years of high-love, low-cost treatment and care for Tanzanian children living with disabilities. Sixteen - can you believe it?

It’s all too easy to get swept up in the everyday, so I’ve come to love these points in our journey that invite me to stop, take stock, and celebrate the milestones.

A year ago today, we announced our plans to change our name.

It felt like the culmination of an evolution - like arriving at who we really are.

As we navigated last year, I found myself using language like ‘stepping into the world’ and ‘coming of age’.

Communicating the transition was like describing the bumpy passage from childhood through those tricky early teens.

I’m so proud of what Kafika House has become.

Today we’ve arrived at sweet sixteen and it feels like we are firmly in the world, in our own right and on our own terms.

It also feels like this is just the beginning.

We talk a lot about expansion: the growth it will take to reach our dreams.

As we blow out the candles on our cake, my wish for Kafika is exactly this.

I want all of our big, bold, beautiful ambitions to come true.

None of what we’ve achieved in the last 16 years would have been possible without you.

Here's to a long future of transforming childhood, and changing the face of disability forever.

With love,

Sarah
